When I decided to modernise my company in Palermo, I believed that introducing new digital systems and artificial intelligence would be primarily a technological challenge. Working with Dr Elena Carruba made me realise that successful transformation begins with people, not technology.
I lead a team of seven employees, and my ambition was to restructure our operations, improve efficiency and introduce smarter ways of working. However, I quickly encountered resistance. My employees were understandably concerned about how these changes would affect their responsibilities, their daily routines and, most importantly, the security of their jobs in a world increasingly influenced by AI.
Elena helped me recognise something fundamental: being the business owner does not mean that change can simply be imposed. Genuine leadership requires listening, understanding people's fears, building trust and creating a shared vision that everyone feels part of.
Over just a few months, Elena worked with me and my team, combining strategic business development, change management, emotional intelligence and practical digital transformation. She helped me develop a more inclusive and emotionally intelligent leadership approach, communicate difficult decisions with empathy, manage resistance constructively and involve employees in reshaping the way we worked.
One of the most valuable aspects of her guidance was learning how to distinguish between tasks that could benefit from AI and those where human relationships remained our greatest competitive advantage.
Rather than viewing artificial intelligence as a replacement for employees, Elena encouraged us to see it as an opportunity to enhance their capabilities. We explored how digital tools could support document preparation, visual content creation, administrative processes and repetitive activities, while allowing the team to dedicate greater attention to customer relationships, personalised services and face-to-face engagement.
She helped us rethink our working practices, clarify responsibilities, develop new digital confidence and move towards a business model where technology supports human expertise instead of competing with it.
The transformation was not only operational; it was cultural. What began with uncertainty and resistance became a more constructive conversation about learning, collaboration, adaptability and the future of our business. I developed greater confidence in leading change, while my team began to understand how innovation could strengthen their contribution rather than diminish their value.
Elena brought an exceptional combination of strategic thinking, practical guidance and human understanding. She challenged me to move beyond traditional top-down management towards a more participative, ethical and future-focused style of leadership.
What impressed me most was her ability to connect the bigger strategic picture with the realities of a small business, translating complex ideas about AI and organisational change into practical decisions relevant to our everyday work.
In only a few months, we achieved something that had initially seemed extremely difficult: we began reshaping our organisation around a more confident, digitally capable and collaborative team, while preserving the personal relationships that make our business distinctive.
Elena did not simply help us introduce technology. She helped me become a better leader and helped us reconsider how our business could evolve without losing its human identity.
I am deeply grateful for her expertise, patience and commitment to our development. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Elena Carruba to any business leader seeking to navigate transformation, overcome resistance to change and create an organisation where people and technology can succeed together.
